Graduates of ����ԭ�� are more likely to achieve upward social mobility than their peers at other Kentucky institutions. In the , ����ԭ�� is ranked No. 1 in Kentucky for social mobility and places in the top 37 percent of universities nationwide for advancing student economic mobility. 

The social mobility ranking reflects the university’s commitment to providing high-quality, affordable higher education that enables students to earn degrees and improve their long-term economic outcomes. 

Affordable Tuition and Reduced Financial Burden

����ԭ�� of the ����ԭ�� has implemented multiple initiatives to reduce the financial burden of college. In 2019, the university reduced tuition by 57 percent. In 2023, it introduced the comprehensive One Price Promise tuition model. Most recently, the launch of the ����ԭ�� Commitment Fund lowered on-campus students’ out-of-pocket costs to no more than $2,000 per semester. Together, these initiatives have made earning a degree at ����ԭ�� more affordable than ever. 

Because of these efforts, students are earning degrees and exploring postgraduate opportunities without the financial stress of heavy student loan debt. 

“As an out-of-state student, affordability was one of the biggest factors in my college decision, and the significant tuition reduction over the past few years made earning a degree at UC financially realistic for students like me,” explained said Koral Hadac, ’25. “Because of that commitment to lowering costs, I was able to graduate debt free, which is something that completely changed the trajectory of my life and gave me the freedom to pursue my career goals without financial burden.” 

Social Mobility Requires More Than Affordability 

While affordability plays a critical role, social mobility is more than reduced tuition. It is the process of earning a college degree and using that opportunity to move into a higher socioeconomic status through career advancement and long-term financial stability. 

At ����ԭ�� of the ����ԭ��, upward mobility is supported not only by accessible tuition, but also by strong academic programs and personalized student support. 

“Beyond affordability, UC provided a supportive community that genuinely invested in student success,” explained Koral. “The professors challenged me to grow while also making themselves available for guidance and mentorship.” 

Student Success Stories Reflect Institutional Impact 

Koral traveled from Minnesota to take advantage of the opportunities ����ԭ�� offers. Closer to home, Taylor Hale, ’23, of Williamsburg, Ky., shares a similar success story. 

“Before coming to UC, I thought college meant long-term debt. ����ԭ�� proved me wrong,” Taylor shared. “UC’s affordable tuition rates opened up doors for me that’s led me down so many incredible paths. I never had to stress about whether my college degree was worth it.” 

Taylor also shared how ����ԭ�� faculty and staff played a key role in his experience. 

“Every professor, director, or admissions counselor had one thing on their minds, and that was ensuring we felt comfortable, safe, and were progressing,” he explained. 

When Taylor reflects on his time at ����ԭ��, one interaction with a faculty member stands out. 

“Dr. Jake Brock sat down with me outside of class and helped me develop a résumé I have used since that day,” Taylor shared. “It’s the little things like that — those small moments of effort or setting aside a few minutes to talk through a situation. That’s what really sticks with you.” 

Since graduating from ����ԭ��, both Koral and Taylor have continued to build on the foundation they established as students. Koral is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration at ����ԭ��, further investing in her professional growth. Taylor recently accepted an accounting position at a 501(c)(3) nonprofit federally qualified health center in Corbin, Kentucky, applying the skills he developed in the classroom to meaningful work in his community.
